I was that kid who was always at home and never got out much except to travel. Given that I had a fear of failure, I didn't take my driving test until I was 18, so doing things on my own and driving for the first few times was very intimidating. I haven't been here long enough for IUPUI to completely change me, but I love it here. I like being able to walk around and feel comfortable and free.

I've also never been the one to be sociable, but everyone at IUPUI makes me feel like I belong. In high school, I felt like people were judgmental and that you never could be yourself. IUPUI is nothing like that. I remember going to orientation and being scared out of my mind. Once I got there, I realized there was nothing to be scared about. Everyone else around me felt the same way I did, so it made it easier getting along with others.

IUPUI has helped me get out of my comfort zone a bit. Ive had to walk and talk to many people on my own. Its nice to finally break out of my shell. Discussions and meetings in my classes have helped me achieve that. The professors do a great job getting students involved and engaging with them.
