IUPUI took a very scared outsider and made her a leader, a mentor, a teacher, and a wanderer.
My mentors Monica Medina and Erik Shaver, both of the School of Education, as well as my job on campus in the Office of Orientation Services and the Bepko Learning Center, encouraged me and provided me with the experience and drive to teach in Indianapolis Public Schools and enroll in graduate school. My volunteer time at Paws Pantry instilled in me a love for volunteering that has carried over into my new city of Chicago. My involvement in Regatta, student housing, and various campus clubs gave me life-long friends.
My favorite memory of IUPUI was walking through campus with a good friend. We were discussing campus, and she looked up at the Campus Center and said, "The only way you'll remember that building is it looks like it has a giant flash drive on top." I still think about it to this day.
