I enrolled at IUPUI in the fall of 2014, and two weeks into classes I found out I was expecting my son.
So many times it crossed my mind to drop out and focus on my pregnancy, but I decided to keep going to school full-time and working. I’m so glad I never gave up — four years later I walked that stage, and my son was there to see it all.
Being a first-generation graduate with a major in communication studies, a minor in business, and a certificate in Latino studies has been a huge accomplishment for me! The day of commencement was not just marked by my graduation, but also by my son’s birthday. He was born May, 12, 2015, and I graduated May 12, 2018. That day will forever be the best day of my life!
I couldn’t have done it without the support and great professors IUPUI offers! I’m proud to be a Jaguar!
