My favorite memory from my 15 years at IUPUI is still the men’s basketball championship game at the 2003 Mid-Con conference tournament when Matt Crenshaw made “the shot” and sent IUPUI to the NCAA tournament.
I was sitting in press row during the game, which is right next to the court. I enjoyed watching tournament games from press row because the seats were unobstructed and tournament officials provided stat sheets during timeouts. However, there was an unwritten “no cheering” rule for anyone sitting there. Normally this wasn’t a huge problem for me, but when Matt drained the winning shot, it took all the self control I could possibly muster not to stand up and scream. The next two weeks were crazy with preparing for the trip to Nashville and all the national publicity Coach Hunter’s slide across the floor after the game generated.
