Coming from a lower socioeconomic background, I recognized early that a college education was key to achieving my dream and for building a better future for myself and my family. As a first generation high school graduate, entering college at IUPUI was both exciting and daunting.
My childhood dream was to be a healthcare professional when I grew up. I began studies at IUPUI in 1984, and in 2016 (32 years later), I completed my final and third IU degree at IUPUI (B.S. in Occupational Therapy, 1989; M.S. in Health Sciences Education, 2004; and O.T.D., Doctor of Occupational Therapy, 2016).
I have had an amazing career as an occupational therapist working in clinical practice and in academia at IUPUI, teaching future generations of occupational therapists. Every day, I am grateful for the impact that my education at IUPUI has made in enabling me to improve the lives of others.
Thank you IUPUI for Fulfilling the Promise!
