The first time I stepped foot on the IUPUI campus, I wasn't impressed.
I know that's not the way you expected me to start this story. But in IUPUI's defense, I was in middle school and nothing much impressed me. But the second time I visited campus, as a senior in high school, I was hooked. Months later, I moved to "the big city" to start my four years as a journalism major.
I loved everything about IUPUI. The classes, the students, the view of downtown. Some nights, I sat in my car parked on top of one of the parking garages and stared at that gorgeous skyline.
IUPUI gave me my start. I got my degree, I gained experience, I made connections that led me to my first job. Fourteen years later, I'm back — this time as an employee. When I heard about the job opening in the Office of Community Engagement, I knew this was my chance to come back to the place I love.
Now, I get to stare at that beautiful skyline again and be among the best and the brightest in Indiana. And now, with two kids of my own, maybe I can encourage them to continue the family tradition. Go Jags!
