IUPUI has changed a lot since I was a student.
In 2002, it was truly a pure commuter school, and the only people with IUPUI gear were the athletes. Now, there are IUPUI logos and apparel everywhere. IUPUI has since become a first choice for people, rather than a fallback or transfer school.
My best memory of IUPUI was competing in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history because of the notoriety it brought to the university and Athletics Department. There were so many supporters and people who were proud of our success. Another great memory was being able to share George Hill’s draft night with him.
As an IUPUI basketball player, the understanding and patience from my coaching staff was crucial to help overcome challenges of being away from family, and I was able to build lifelong relationships with them to feel I was at home.
In addition to the coaches, I have lifelong relationships with the majority of my teammates, as well as professors, and we still keep in contact to this day, even after 10-11 years.
Being in a coaching role for IUPUI basketball now, it means a lot to know that I am able to give back and impact others the way that my coaches and teammates have impacted me.
